Meet and hear from Solution 1 Member: Jenn Herriage, 34, Registered Nurse & Army National Guard Officer
“I played sports growing up & my first exposure to weight lifting was high school weights class. I didn’t get into working out for my own health until after I had my daughters, now 15 & 12 yrs old. Eventually I started training in body building for a couple years and competed in a few figure competitions. That definitely taught me discipline in my nutrition and exercise, but it was too strict and isolating of a lifestyle for me after a while.
I had my eye on joining S1 for a year or more and finally joined when moved back to Shawnee. I wanted to get away from body building for aesthetics and just get stronger and faster and become a better version of myself.
When I started S1 I couldn’t do pull-ups without a band, now I can do multiple strict pull-ups. Every aspect of my physical fitness has improved since I started Crossfit! When I started S1 I couldn’t clean 125lbs, but just 2 weeks ago, at 32 weeks pregnant, I was doing 125lb power cleans multiple times! I couldn’t have imagined this level of physical activity during my previous pregnancies!
It’s been very encouraging to get compliments on how great I look during pregnancy and on my ability to still workout this far along in pregnancy!
Now, I love Crossfit so much I became a coach too! I really enjoy helping others work towards their fitness goals & I love when I see someone master a movement or get a new PR!
Challenging myself physically just makes me feel so much better! When I regularly push myself my mood improves, my stress level decreases, and I am a happier person! I especially love being able to share Crossfit with my husband!
Overall, I want to be a great role model for my daughters! I am able to show them that physical health is important and being a strong woman is something to be proud of! I love when we are able to workout together! I love it when I hear from my kids’ friends’ parents about how proud my daughters are of their strong mom!
On top of that, I never worry about needing to prepare for my annual Army physical fitness test, with Crossfit I can train as I do everyday and then go out and excel at this test. At 35 weeks pregnant right now, I can work a busy 10 hour day, on my feet, and still have the energy for evening activities!
S1 is truly a family. I have felt welcome from my first class over 4 years ago! I love that we can compete against and cheer each other on! It’s always a celebration when someone sets a new PR or masters a movement. It doesn’t matter where you start physically, the S1 family is there to encourage you!
Thinking about it? Just come in and try it! You don’t have to be in good shape to start, you can start wherever you’re at now! This family is so welcoming and we would love to have you be a part of it!”
